The Superior Audit of the Federation (ASF) detected possible irregularities for 2,404 million pesos in public and technological universities in the country. The finding is part of the review of the 2024 Public Account, according to an analysis by the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (Imco).
Almost a hundred institutions were audited: state, technological, polytechnic and institutes. In total, 111,557 million pesos in federal resources were audited. The anomalies detected – still in the process of clarification – went from 1,564 to 1,879 million pesos in the last year evaluated.
Federal agency and proposals
The Imco also warned about the high dependence on the Federation. At 30 of 35 state public universities, more than half of their budget comes from the central government. In some autonomous companies, the percentage reaches almost 90%.
Given the panorama, the organization proposed: strengthening payroll controls, digitizing contracting processes and improving documentary supervision to avoid irregular payments.
