Alejandro Zendejas, called up by the United States for the 2026 World Cup

The América midfielder was included in the final list of 26 United States players for the 2026 World Cup.

América celebrated this Tuesday the inclusion of Alejandro Zendejas in the final list of 26 footballers who will represent the United States in the 2026 World Cup. The Mexican-American midfielder, who wears number 26, was part of the official event in New York headed by coach Mauricio Pochettino.

“Alejandro Zendejas called up for the 2026 World Cup! Zendejas will represent the United States National Team shirt with pride and passion… Much success in what is to come, Águila! The time is now,” the azulcrema club wrote on its social networks.

The United States will debut on June 12 against Paraguay in Group D, where they will also face Australia and Türkiye. For Pochettino it will be his first experience directing in a World Cup.

With this call, Zendejas becomes the only representative of Liga MX within the American team. The 28-year-old midfielder thus adds his first participation in a World Cup after establishing himself as a key piece in Pochettino’s scheme during the tie.

This Friday, July 3, the round of 32 of the 2026 North American World Cup is completed. After 13 matches played, six round of 16 matches have already been defined. Today the remaining rivals will be known.

Canada, Morocco, Paraguay, France, Brazil, Norway, Mexico, England, Portugal, Spain, United States, Belgium and Switzerland have already qualified for the next phase.

Who is looking for your pass?

Australia, Egypt, Argentina, Cape Verde, Colombia and Ghana compete to obtain the last tickets.

The winner of Australia vs Egypt will face the winner of Argentina vs Cape Verde. On the other hand, the winner of Colombia vs Ghana will face Switzerland.

Only one of the three games will be broadcast on open television in Mexico. The other two can be followed through streaming platforms.

Just one day before the round of 16 concludes, the 2026 World Cup already has 13 of the 16 teams that will compete in the round of 16 defined. So far, 28 teams have been eliminated, including powerhouses such as Germany, Uruguay, the Netherlands and Croatia.

Portugal and Croatia starred in a duel of legends. At minute 3, Ante Budimir threatened, but the Portuguese goalkeeper stopped. Portugal responded with shots from Bruno Fernandes and Vitinha. The match became tense, with no goals at halftime.

In the second half, Croatia struck in the 53rd minute with Ivan Perišić. Portugal looked for an equalizer, and in the 68th minute Cristiano Ronaldo achieved it with a penalty. The star came out in the 81st minute visibly upset, replaced by Rúben Neves.

When Croatia seemed to be in control, Gonçalo Ramos headed in at 90+3′ to spark the celebration. A goal by Joško Gvardiol at 90+12′ was disallowed for offside. Luka Modric says goodbye to the World Cups; Portugal will face Spain in the round of 16.

Mexico, present in the arbitration

Mexican whistler Katia Itzel García will be the fourth referee in Argentina vs Cape Verde in the Round of 32. Sandra Ramírez will be a reserve assistant. The center will be the Canadian Drew Fischer.

Colombia and Ghana look for the last ticket

Colombia and Ghana face each other this Friday at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City for a place in the round of 16. The winner will face the winner of Switzerland vs Algeria. Colombian coach Néstor Lorenzo commented: “I prefer not to be in need of being favorites.” Colombia led Group K with two wins and one draw.
