Mexico dreams big against England
Twelve games without defeat, just two goals conceded and football on the rise. These are the arguments that sustain the enthusiasm of the Mexican National Team before today’s duel against England, valid for the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup.
Javier Aguirre spoke clearly at a press conference. The strategist does not hide his confidence.
“If I didn’t believe that we could beat England I would even tell you, but I fervently believe in how the team works. We know that it will be a very close match and the one who makes the fewest mistakes will be the one who will win.”
A pressure that does not change
El Tri has just beaten Ecuador and broken a 40-year drought without winning in the World Cup knockout phase. The mood is different, but the pressure remains the same for ‘Vasco’.
“More work in quantity, yes, but pressure always exists. The National Team has pressure and that helps you grow and be better.”
Aguirre recognizes that in this Cup he has achieved a group unity that was not seen in his previous administrations (Korea-Japan 2002 and South Africa 2010). But leave the evaluation to others.
“I would tell you that this analysis is yours. The three times I tried to capture these concepts that I have today, I’m sure I didn’t succeed, but we always put together competitive teams.”
Schedule and transmission
The duel will be played this Sunday, July 5 at 6:00 p.m. (central Mexico) at the Mexico City Stadium. The broadcast will be carried out by Las Estrellas, Canal 5, TUDN, Azteca 7 and ViX Pase Mundial.
The fans dream. The team too. Mexico has a date with history.
