Another patch on the eternal airport
The Mexico City International Airport announced the inevitable: the Aerotrén that connects the terminals will go into maintenance for eight days. Starting this Sunday, April 12, until April 19, that little train that many avoid will be out of service.
The solution offered is classic: buses. They will leave from Gate 4 of each terminal to take passengers from one side to the other. For the eighth time this year, they ask you to be patient and use alternate routes.
The great remodeling that nobody asked for
All this occurs while the comprehensive remodeling of the AICM continues, that pharaonic project that must be ready by May 30. Just in time for the 2026 World Cup, of course.
Arturo Flores Melgoza, coordinator of the work, had already apologized for the inconvenience in March. His promise sounds familiar:
“It will be worth it because, although the World Cup accelerated the processes, the remodeling is a long-term project that will benefit users. The airport is being remodeled for Mexicans, it is not just a World Cup issue.”
They say it’s not just a matter of facade. They talk about replacing electrical, hydraulic and sanitary installations. The investment already reaches 9 thousand 200 million pesos, divided into three phases: aesthetic, operational and technological.
Meanwhile, passengers will continue to navigate works, detours and now, the suspension of the Aerotrén. The first impression for tourists of the World Cup is built between scaffolding and replacement buses.
