Two violent events shake Culiacán
A confrontation in an Infonavit Humaya apartment complex, in Culiacán, left the death of an alleged head of a criminal cell. Hours earlier, federal and state forces had detained four people with an arsenal in the same area.
The authorities have not revealed the identity of the deceased, who confronted state elements during an inspection at the Paralela Parque Residencial condominium tower. Unofficial versions indicate that he was a criminal leader who operated in the capital of Sinaloa.
Previous arrests and confiscation
Elements of the Army and the State Police detained four men who were trying to flee in a vehicle in the parking lot of the complex. They seized eight firearms—among them a 5.56×45 mm caliber machine gun—, 42 magazines, four chain links and 3,402 cartridges of different calibers. Two fragmentation grenades, four tactical vests, six ballistic plates and 100 doses of suspected cocaine (50 grams) were also found. The car, a Nissan Versa, did not have a theft report.
Attack in Water Valley
Almost in parallel, a group of people was attacked by gunfire in a park in the Valle del Agua subdivision. Rubén “N”, 32, died at the scene, and two men – identified as Saúl “N” and Uriel “N” – were injured and were treated by emergency services.
Personnel from the Vehicle Anti-Theft Unit of the State Prosecutor’s Office were in the area conducting investigations into car theft. Upon hearing the explosions, they requested support and went to the scene, but they did not locate the attackers. It was ruled out that investigators had participated in the shooting.
Both incidents are under investigation by state and federal authorities.
