A chapter closes
The news came straight to our hearts this Tuesday. Aaron Ramsey, that midfielder with class and goal who brought so much joy, has decided to put an end to his career. At 35 years old, and after a few months without a team since leaving Pumas UNAM, the Welshman has made one of the most difficult decisions for any athlete.
“This has not been an easy decision to make. After much reflection, I have decided to retire from football,” he confessed in a statement full of emotion.
An indelible mark on Wales
Talking about Ramsey is talking about history for the Welsh team. With 86 games and 21 goals, his legacy is enormous. He was a key player in that epic Euro 2016 semi-final, where Wales touched the sky before falling to champions Portugal. A memory that no fan will forget.
His farewell to the national team was not as he dreamed either. He was left out of the last World Cup playoff against Bosnia, seeing his dream of one last great event disappear.
But his words reflect only gratitude:
“It has been a privilege to wear the Wales shirt… It would not have been possible without the enormous contribution of all the coaches… To the Red Wall. They have been there through thick and thin!”
From Arsenal to Mexico: a journey with ups and downs
His career in clubs was a journey full of contrasts. He forged his career in Cardiff before making the jump to Arsenal in 2008. Eleven seasons in London where he became a hero, lifting three FA Cups and scoring decisive goals in two finals.
Then came Juventus, Nice and an emotional return to Cardiff in 2023. His last adventure was at Pumas UNAM, a stage cut short by physical problems and a curious episode looking for his lost dog that caused him to miss training.
Today he looks back with his head held high. A footballer who understood that this sport goes beyond the result; It is about passion, dedication and those moments that unite an entire nation. Thanks for everything, Aaron.
