The America promised by Jardine never arrived on the field
The team André Jardine said we’d see in Nashville just didn’t show up. It was a goalless draw that leaves everything to be resolved at Azteca next week. A flat performance, without spark, that sets off the alarms.
The apathy that accompanies them in Liga MX carried over to the Champions Cup. The away goal that could have made the difference never came. In the first half, the most dangerous shot was from Zendejas, directly at the goalkeeper.
“We are in shit…”, writes a fan on social media.
It must be said: this ‘decaffeinated’ version of América, sixth in the League, was not surpassed by the leader of the MLS Eastern Conference. Figures like Mukhtar or Surridge did not find how to do harm.
At times, the Eagles seemed comfortable with the result. Defining at home is an advantage, but a single goal from Nashville in Mexico would put them on the ropes.
Scratch is far from playing as its fans expect and as Emilio Azcárraga demands, obsessed with ending the 10-year drought without this continental title.
“America scored twice in 90 minutes… it’s depressing,” wrote another follower.
There are already four games without winning. If they don’t wake up soon, many things are at risk: the Clásico Joven with Cruz Azul is coming and the return against Nashville.
The alarms are on. If America does not react, it could add another international setback in the Jardine era. The ball is in their court, literally. Next week at the Azteca there is no room for another gray performance.
