A red ride under the radar
The 2026 BAFTA Awards carpet was dyed royal blue tonight. There were William and Kate, parading with that textbook smile that is now their second skin. The Royal Festival Hall in London welcomed them as two more stars in the British cultural firmament.
But let’s face it, no one was just looking at the dresses. The shadow is long, and this time it has a name: Prince Andrew. William’s uncle is once again the subject of his legal troubles, putting the Royal House in another public mess from which it is difficult to escape.
Strategic smiles and eloquent silences
The princes walked the catwalk with the usual elegance. They greeted, posed, smiled for the cameras. The thing of a lifetime. What they didn’t do was the most interesting: they didn’t stop for a second to talk to the press.
It is the usual dynamic in this type of ceremony, but on this occasion it was interpreted by British media as a way to avoid references to the case involving his family member.
A very noisy silence. In London they are already speculating that it was a calculated move. Why risk an awkward question about your guy when you can shine with an Alexander McQueen and a perfect smile?
Your presence here is not coincidental. William is president of the British Film Academy, so he had work to do. But it was also an image mission: to project normality, elegance and continuity just when the family foundations are shaking again.
It is the eternal dance of the modern monarchy. Smile for photos while putting out fires at home. Tonight, on the red carpet, they did it with flying colors. The rest of the show… well, that one continues off-camera.
