The capital of Tamaulipas becomes the epicenter of state sports
From this Thursday until Sunday, Ciudad Victoria is experiencing a true sports festival. The state selections organized by the INDE Tamaulipas are underway, defining who will represent us on the road to the 2026 Regional Olympiad.
The general director of INDE, Manuel Virués Lozano, cannot hide his enthusiasm. The response has been incredible—hundreds of athletes came with one goal: to do their best to advance.
“We highlight the great influx of athletes and the sporting level that we will see in each event,” commented Virués Lozano about this massive call.
What disciplines are in competition?
Boxing opened fire today at the Edmundo Castro Núñez Gym. With 330 participants from 16 municipalities, blows and technique set the pace until Sunday.
But where an explosion of energy is really expected is in athletics. From February 13 to 15, the track of the “Américo Villarreal Guerra” Sports Center will receive some 360 athletes and coaches from thirteen municipalities. The races, jumps and throws promise strong emotions.
In parallel, weights also have their space. In the same Sports Center, 52 lifters from Matamoros, Tampico and Victoria will seek to beat personal records and qualify for the next phase.
More than 700 athletes in total will transform Victoria for four intense days. Every effort, every drop of sweat, brings someone closer to the dream of representing Tamaulipas at the national level.
These are not just competitions—they are stories that start here. Athletes who trained months for this opportunity. Coaches who see dedicated work flourish. And a city that breathes sport through all its pores.
The goal is clear: qualify for the national stage and then aim for the 2026 Regional Olympics. But today, the important thing is what happens on these tracks and gyms. The future of Tamaulipas sports is being written now.
