Cooperation that produces results
The United States government confirmed that it maintains multilateral and bilateral talks with several countries in the Western Hemisphere, including Ecuador, El Salvador, Bolivia and Mexico, to combat drug trafficking. Sara Carter, director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, described this information sharing as a constant and ongoing process.
“We saw what happened in Mexico, when we shared intelligence with the Mexican government and we saw the Mexican government act immediately against ‘El Mencho’ and he was killed,” he declared.
According to the official, the execution of operations by the Mexican authorities has shown direct results after receiving strategic data. The US administration noted that the effectiveness of security strategies in the region depends on close coordination between agencies.
The report highlights that the current Mexican administration, headed by President Claudia Sheinbaum, has maintained cooperation mechanisms for the neutralization of generators of violence. The question that remains: How much sensitive information is actually shared and what happens when cooperation breaks down?
