A fire in a mannequin store triggers a dramatic evacuation in Monterrey

A mannequin store became an improvised nighttime sauna, leaving six people with more scares than burns.

When the mannequins decided to set fire to the drama

Ah, Monterrey, the city where even the mannequins have more action than a soap opera. Last night, a place dedicated to these plastic figures (which, by the way, never complain about the rent prices) decided to become the scene of an improvised pyrotechnic show. The result? Six evacuees, several firefighters sweating bullets and a question floating in the air: who sets fire to a place full of mannequins? Perhaps a vengeful ex-employee tired of being told “put this blouse on mannequin 3”?

The hottest hour of the morning

The clock showed 2:34 AM, the time when night owls are between their third coffee and regretting not having gone to sleep. But no, destiny had other plans. On Arteaga Street, a stone’s throw from the Colegio Civil, the flames decided that it was the perfect time to sneak through a steel curtain (who, clearly, did not read the manual on “how to be a good fire barrier”). Firefighters from Nuevo León, Civil Protection and even the gossiping neighbor arrived at the scene, because what better nighttime entertainment than watching a mannequin store become an improvised pyre?

While the fire extinguishers worked their magic (smothering flames, ventilating, cooling… the basics), the municipal police officers were dedicated to protecting the tenants of the apartments above. Among them, Central American migrants and a few people from Tampico who, surely, longed for the fresh air of their land instead of the smoke that the neighbor downstairs gave them. The list of evacuees sounds like the cast of a reality show: Dubraska (21), Franklin (20), César (24), Rizabeth (21), Ricardo (28) and Daniela (27). Everyone had to leave through the steel curtain door, because, of course, why invest in emergency exits when you can rely on the good will of the fire?

The causes of the fire remain a mystery, although we can speculate: a short circuit? A mannequin who finally rebelled against her life of posing in uncomfortable clothing? Or simply Monterrey wanting to remind us that drama is never lacking here? The only thing that is certain is that, for one night, this place was the hottest place in the city… and not precisely because of the sales.

The Security Cabinet has arrested Colombian citizens linked to the training and manufacturing of improvised explosive devices in Michoacán. This was reported by the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, during the morning conference on Friday, July 3 in Morelia.

These arrests are part of investigations that identified the entry of several people involved into the country, mainly through the Mexico City International Airport and other air entry points. The National Intelligence Center monitored these movements.

The entry of foreign people by land was also detected, who allegedly collaborate in the training of members of criminal groups to install these devices. García Harfuch pointed out that there is an ongoing investigation to locate the leaders of these networks in Michoacán, including alleged high-level members of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel.

The head of the SSPC confirmed the participation of citizens from different countries, mainly from Colombia. We are working in coordination with Colombian authorities to strengthen the investigations. Therefore, variables such as the exchange rate did not show negative reactions. On July 1, the peso stood at 17.54 units per dollar, with no relevant movements after the announcement.

Productive integration in North America is key. Mexico maintains its role as the main supplier of fresh fruits and vegetables to the United States. This strengthens regional food security, especially in the agri-food sector.

Looking ahead to the next negotiations, the central issues will be the reduction of tariffs, the defense of the rules of origin and access to agricultural markets. The United States will seek to reduce its trade deficit, while Canada will try to protect its key sectors.
