A ninety-minute drama that decided destinies
The stage was set for tragedy or glory. In the majestic El Encanto Stadium, under a sky that promised epics, two armies lined up. On the one hand, Mazatlán FC, with the hearts of its fans beating in unison, wanted to write a legendary start in Clausura 2026. In front of them, FC Juárez, a legion led with an iron fist by Pedro Caixinha, arrived with a mission: to sow chaos from the first breath. The fate of the season hung in the balance.
The battle began as a dull roar, with furious attacks but without the edge of the fatal blow. Until, in the 22nd minute, the first act of betrayal came. Francisco Nevárez, like an archer in the dark, launched a cross projectile from his right hand that embedded itself in the net defended by Ricardo Rodríguez. A sepulchral silence, more deafening than any scream, momentarily drowned out the Mazatlan soul. The score was a cruel 0-1.
The fleeting ecstasy and the inevitable fall
But the Gunners are not men who give up. With wounded pride and fury as their banner, they reacted. In the 35th minute, after a play that seemed woven by the football gods, a pinpoint cross arrived. There was Facundo Almada, who with a header loaded with all the hope of a port, smashed the ball into the net. Goal! The 1-1 tie unleashed overwhelming euphoria in the stands. Redemption seemed tangible.
However, in this novel of unleashed passions, happiness is always an ephemeral guest. Just when the referee brought the whistle to his lips to end the first act, in the 46th minute of added time, tragedy occurred. A catastrophic error, a capital sin in the departure of the same momentary hero, Facundo Almada. José Luis Rodríguez, like a vulture sniffing out carrion, stole the ball, advanced and served a plate for Denzell García. The latter, with terrifying coldness from the center of the area, made it 1-2. The blow was low and lethal.
The second half became a desperate siege. Mazatlán, wounded but not defeated, pushed with the strength of someone who has lost everything. Jordan Sierra became his involuntary executioner: in the 61st minute he missed a lethal shot after a corner and in the 67th minute, his shot grazed the post like a frustrated kiss to fate, generating angry calls for a penalty that fell on deaf ears.
The game was stopped due to injuries, such as that of Moisés Mosquera, but Juárez remained organized and resisted the final attacks.
The clock ticked inexorably. The forces were exhausted and the opportunities disappeared between tactical fouls and airtight defenses. Juárez, like a block of granite carved by Caixinha, added its first three points with a hard-fought victoryin hostile territory.
The Braves begin their journey on the right foot; The Gunners will have to lick their wounds and adjust their armor for the upcoming battles. Because in this league, each game is a new chapter where everything can change… or repeat itself.
