Accident in San Nicolás due to mechanical failure and excessive speed
A double-trailer trailer suffered a violent accident early this Monday in San Nicolás, Nuevo León, after allegedly bursting a tire and losing control on a curve. The unit, loaded with drywall, overturned and fell from an overpass approximately seven meters high, obstructing three of the five lanes of Fidel Velázquez Avenue.
Incident details and emergency response
The accident occurred around 2:00 a.m. in front of Ciudad Universitaria, when the driver, identified as Arani Campos Gutiérrez, 34 years old, lost control of the vehicle when exiting the Manuel Barragán curve. “I felt like a tire burst; the weight and speed caused the trailer to flip,” said the driver, who fortunately only suffered minor injuries.
Security guards from the UANL were the first to assist when they heard the impact, followed by elements of Transit and Civil Protection. The second tow knocked down part of a fence and railing, forcing the area to be cordoned off. Three cranes worked to remove the debris and reopen the road around 6:45 a.m.
Risks of heavy transport in urban areas
This incident shows the dangers of heavy vehicle traffic in areas with high population density. The combination of bulky cargo, speeding and mechanical failure can have catastrophic consequences. Authorities recommend:
- Periodic technical inspections of tires and braking systems
- Respect speed limits on curves and bridges
- Use of technologies such as stability control in trailers
Fortunately, on this occasion there were no fatalities, but the case serves as a warning to improve security protocols in the transportation of goods.
