An early morning that ended in tragedy
Four people were killed when a small medical plane crashed in a mountainous area near Ruidoso, New Mexico. The device, a Beechcraft King Air 90, had taken off from Roswell Airport bound for Sierra Blanca Regional Airport.
The impact occurred around 4 a.m. local time. Lincoln County Administrator Jason Burns confirmed the worst: “All four people were found dead at the scene.”
What is known so far
The accident left a fire in a remote, wooded area of the Capitan Mountain area. Fire, police and emergency teams quickly arrived at the scene, but there was nothing they could do.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to the families, loved ones, friends and colleagues of those who lost their lives,” Burns said at a news conference.
What’s next?
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have already opened an investigation to find out what happened. For now, we just have to wait for the results and wonder how this tragedy could happen on a seemingly routine route.
