The kings of garage rock are back
After months of rumors, speculation and that silence that always makes us think the worst, The Strokes have officially confirmed their return. Yes, you read that right. The band that defined the indie sound of the 2000s is preparing new material.
Through their social networks, the New York quintet dropped the bomb: a new album called ‘Reality Awaits’ will arrive this summer. The ad came with a mysterious video starring an eighties Nissan and the phrase “In the flesh, it’s even sexier.” Classic of them, right? All mystery and cool attitude.
“I love you”, “New album, for God’s sake”, “The best day of my life”
This is how fans reacted on social media when the news went viral. The excitement is real, and rightly so: we’ve been waiting for almost six years since ‘The New Abnormal’, that album where they played with synthesizers and reminded us that they can still surprise.
A legacy that lives on
The Strokes are not just any band. They’re those guys you listened to on your first iPod while you pretended to understand adult life. With more than 15 million monthly listeners on Spotify, its influence transcends generations.
The funny thing is that we don’t know if there will be a world tour. Fans are crossing their fingers, of course. But for now, it’s enough to know that Julian Casablancas and company are still there, preparing that perfect mix of distorted guitars and existential lyrics that we missed so much.
Summer is coming up interesting. In the meantime, I’m going to put on ‘Is This It’ for the umpteenth time and remember when having a haircut like Albert Hammond Jr. seemed like a good idea.
