A new act in the toughest battle
The statistics are still brutal. Childhood cancer continues to be one of the main causes of mortality in girls and boys worldwide. Hundreds of thousands of new cases every year. But amidst all this cold data, there is a silent revolution that is changing the destiny of thousands of families.
It’s not magic. It is pure and hard science. Molecular biology has entered the scene to rewrite the script.
The power of looking inside the tumor
It’s no longer just about attacking a lump. Now it’s about understanding it. Specific genetic alterations have been identified in pediatric tumors. This allows for a more precise diagnosis and, most importantly, personalization of therapies.
The clearest example is Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), the most common childhood cancer. Thanks to the genetic analysis of its subtypes, the cure rate is now around 90%. It is a monumental achievement.

If there is a milestone that sounds like science fiction come true, it is this: CAR-T cell therapies.
Imagine this process: T lymphocytes (defensive cells) are extracted from the patient himself. Then, in a laboratory, they are genetically modified so that they incorporate a specific ‘sensor’ against a tumor molecule. Finally, they are reintroduced into the body.
It’s like giving your internal army a detailed map of the enemy.

“It’s like adding radar to immune cells to recognize cancer.”
The result is treatments that go straight to the target. More effective. And, crucially, less toxic. The ‘blind’ treatments that devastated everything in their path, sick and healthy, are reduced.
