A Call for Justice in the Midst of Pain
The life of a leader committed to his community was brutally cut short. Isaías Rojas Ramírez, mayor of Metlatónoc, Guerrero, lost the battle for his life this Monday after a cowardly armed attack that occurred last Wednesday. Together with his wife, Almari González, they were traveling on the Autopista del Sol when they were intercepted by a group of criminals. Although Rojas Ramírez tried to resist the assault, the bullets hit his chest and back, leaving him in a critical condition that he ultimately did not overcome.
A Loss that Moves Guerrero
The Raymundo Abarca Alarcón General Hospital in Chilpancingo witnessed the tireless fight of the doctors to save the mayor’s life. Two surgeries and days of agony were not enough. Meanwhile, his wife, who suffered only a cut to her abdomen, faced a nervous breakdown upon receiving the devastating news that her life partner might not recover. This double blow reflects the harshness of the violence that plagues the region.
Governor Evelyn Salgado did not take long to speak out: “I demand justice so that these events do not remain unpunished,” she wrote on her social networks. His words resonate as an echo of what many citizens are crying out for: security, transparency and punishment for those responsible. Rojas Ramírez, a member of the Labor Party (PT), was not only a public official, but a symbol of resistance in the face of adversity.
