The most important game is in the streets
Less than two months before the official start of the 2026 FIFA Cup, the Mexican government enters the field with a defensive move. He joined the Aleatica Foundation’s “Your best move is to take care of yourself” campaign. The objective is clear: to prevent the football festival from becoming a road tragedy.
Gabriela Cuevas, our representative for the coordination of the World Cup, said it bluntly. > “It reminds us that true triumph begins with prevention and care for each person, our safety and our lives.”
The figures are a blow to the stomach. Every half hour, someone loses their life in a road accident in Mexico. Now imagine that pace with the estimated arrival of 5.5 million foreign visitors.
“On the road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Mexico is preparing to welcome the world with responsibility, coordination and a shared conviction: to protect people’s lives,” added Cuevas.
A campaign that seeks to score an early goal
The initiative does not go with subtleties. Use harsh images about road accidents and a direct message linked to football. Its focus is on urban areas, those settings where “football vibrates” and where 97% of accidents occur.
The most exposed are pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists. The slogan is simple but powerful: “One second, one decision, can change everything”. The final call is forceful: Don’t risk the game: slow down.
This movement is not just a poster or a spot. It is the tacit recognition that our country has an open wound in terms of road safety. The World Cup only puts an emergency that already exists under the global spotlight.
The bet is monumental. Coordinating logistics, hotels and transportation for millions is difficult. But doing it while trying to change entrenched behaviors and save lives… that’s another league. The real score will not be seen in the stadiums, but in the cold accident statistics during those months.
Hopefully this is the masterstroke we need.
