Justice, slow but taking steps
Hernán Bermúdez Requena, that man they call “El Abuelo” or “Comandante H”, looked out at a screen again. This time, from the Altiplano prison, to face an accusation that chills the blood: forced disappearance of people.
The Tabasco Prosecutor’s Office points to him as the alleged leader of “La Barredora.” And here is the perfect irony: the former secretary of Public Security of the state, now prosecuted for the worst crimes against that same security.
“It is not ruled out to file new complaints for other crimes,” warned Governor Javier May.
It sounds like a serious threat. As if this guy’s list of misdeeds were a bottomless pit.
A judicial calendar that stretches
The judge did not mince words: pretrial detention ratified. But it gave the defense more time to prepare its strategy. The key hearing will be on April 4, 2026. There it will be decided whether they will formally link him to the process.
Meanwhile, the Prosecutor’s Office has already released its evidence data on the table. A forceful movement.
To what he already faces – extortion, kidnapping, criminal association – this brutal charge is now added. The total count could leave him behind bars up to 90 years. A life sentence disguised as numbers.
The only certainty is that his future is decided between video calls from prison and a judge who keeps his eye on him. Justice takes time, but it seems that this time it is here to stay.
