In an impeccable operation that demonstrates that collaboration between nations is key to combating impunity, agents in Paraguay achieved a high-impact capture. The former Secretary of Security of Tabasco, Hernán Bermúdez Requena, was detained in a luxury shelter, marking a significant victory for law enforcement.
Imagine the scene: a majestic two-story house with a pool, hidden within an exclusive neighborhood in the metropolitan area of Asunción. This was the hiding place chosen by an individual identified as the alleged leader of the criminal organization “La Barredora”. However, no wall is high enough to stop the arm of justice when it is determined to act. On the night of Friday, September 12, a coordinated and effective procedure was carried out, a true example of precision and dedication.
A Coordinated and Decisive Operation
This success was no coincidence. It was the result of brilliant work of intelligence and international cooperation. The Paraguayan Prosecutor’s Office, together with fiscal agent Giovanni Grisetti and officials from the Extradition Department, worked side by side with special agents from the National Anti-Drug Secretariat (SENAD). This elite team demonstrated that when there is a common goal, barriers disappear and extraordinary results are achieved.
The Paraguayan Public Ministry clearly communicated the purpose: “it coordinated the capture for extradition purposes of a Mexican citizen wanted for extortion and kidnapping”. Based on the information shared by the Mexican authorities, a raid was carried out in the well-known closed neighborhood of Surubi’i, in Mariano Roque Alonso, an exclusive residential area located about 15 kilometers from the center of Asunción. The arrest of Bermúdez Requena, also known by his aliases “El Abuelo” or “Comandante H”, was carried out specifically to comply with an extradition request by the Mexican justice system, which requires him for serious crimes such as criminal association, extortion and express kidnapping.

Senator Adán Augusto López, who served as Governor of Tabasco during Bermúdez’s administration, immediately expressed his absolute willingness to appear before the authorities and collaborate with whatever is necessary. And he added with conviction: “That is the difference with the past: those of us who participate in this movement are not complicit in corruption”. Adán Augusto López also referred directly to the contrast with other political figures, criticizing the PAN coordinator in the Senate, Ricardo Anaya, whom he accused of having “fled to evade justice.” This point of comparison serves to highlight the importance of facing the consequences of actions and responding to society with honesty and courage.
