A Not So Refreshing Dip in the Pesquería River
It seems that the Río Pesquería in Nuevo León decided to add a little extra adrenaline to the afternoon of a 13-year-old teenager, who, in an unexpected turn of events, became the unwitting protagonist of his own survival reality show. Was he looking for a refreshing swim or did the river simply extend an invitation he couldn’t refuse? The world may never know.
The setting for this unplanned adventure was the picturesque Nuevo Escobedo colony, specifically at the intersection where Emiliano Zapata and Fidel Velázquez streets intersect, as if it were the designated meeting point for improvised aquatic dramas. The municipality of Escobedo, usually famous for other things (although, let’s be honest, it probably isn’t), can now add “river rescue scene” to its list of attractions.
The Heroic Operation: Police and Rescuers to the Rescue
In a demonstration of coordination that would make any bureaucrat cry with emotion, the Municipal Police and the brave Civil Protection teams joined forces to carry out a rescue mission. Because, clearly, fishing a teenager out of a river is a task that requires a committee, several life jackets and, we assume, a lot of subsequent paperwork.
The young man, after his involuntary trip through the currents, was conveniently treated by paramedics and brigade members. His diagnosis: blows to different parts of his body. A very technical and medical way of saying that the river hit him, bit him and spit him out, basically giving him a gratuitous aquatic beating. Fortunately, no more serious injuries were reported, only bruises on the body and, presumably, on the pride.
The great mystery that keeps the nation in suspense – or at least the curious who read to the end of the notes – is the mysterious origin of this mishap. Was the minor playing peacefully in the river, unaware of the hydraulic power that is hidden beneath that apparent calm? Or did he just fall into the river in an act of monumental teenage clumsiness, perhaps while looking for the best angle for a TikTok? The authorities, in their infinite wisdom, have decided to classify this information as “something you really don’t need to know.”
One cannot help but marvel at the resilience of the human being, or specifically the human teenager, who probably just wanted to escape the boredom of a random Sunday and ended up starring in an emergency episode that required the mobilization of state resources. Ironically, he got all the attention he perhaps never wanted.
This incident serves as a reminder, as subtle as a pebble in the shoe, that nature, even in its seemingly gentle river form, always has the last word. And it also serves as an unsolicited public service announcement: Rivers are not water parks, although the temptation to treat them as such is sometimes strong.
