Al Pacino and Diego Boneta share credits in Killing Castro, a political thriller that had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. The film is based on real events that occurred in September 1960, months after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution.

During the festival’s red carpet, Pacino publicly praised Boneta. His words were recorded on video:

“What a great performance this guy gives. That’s all I can say. It’s incredible what he does. He becomes the character, one of the great things actors can do.”

Boneta’s reaction

The Mexican actor responded excitedly from the Mexico City airport. “I honestly still can’t believe it,” he said. “He’s one of the best of all time.”

Boneta, known for playing Luis Miguel in the biographical series, assured that bringing Fidel Castro to life is the most important and rewarding challenge of his career. “I was panicking when I got the role,” he confessed. To prepare, he worked with more than five teachers.

In the film, directed by Puerto Rican Eif Rivera, Pacino plays a CIA operative who designs a plot to eliminate Castro. Boneta was proud to represent Mexico in this production. “As a Mexican, being able to be there is what gives me the most pride,” he expressed.
