Because nothing says “transparency” like a meeting between politicians and inflated figures
Ah, Senator Olga Patricia Sosa Ruíz, that omnipresent figure in every protocol photo, this time posing with Rafael Marín Molinedo, director of ANAM, to announce that customs are “stronger” than office coffee. According to the statement (which sounds more like self-aggrandizement than a serious report), we now have 8.8% more collections in real terms. Really real? Because in this country, “real” can mean anything between “a little better” and “we don’t steal as much as we used to.”
The miracle of the loaves and fishes… fiscal
It turns out that the brilliant management (his words, not ours) of Marín Molinedo managed to exceed the estimate by 278 billion pesos. What a coincidence! Just when they needed positive data for the next campaign. And attention to detail: 103% compliance. Because in Mexico, even mathematics is flexible: how do you exceed 100%? With the same magic that turns promises into “realities”.
The senator, in a burst of enthusiasm worthy of an infomercial, connected this “success” with the modernization of Claudia Sheinbaum. Of course, because inaugurating a headquarters in Nuevo Laredo (Tamaulipas, land of narcocorridos and… exemplary customs?) is synonymous with progress. Is it the same team that promised to end corruption or did they just change the name to the old methods?
And like every good story needs an epic ending, Olga Sosa announced that a reform is coming to “modernize” more customs offices. Translation: more bureaucracy, more photos for the archive and, hopefully, another 8.8% increase… or at least a good headline. Because in the end, what matters is not the numbers, but who announces them.
