Sheinbaum: neither friendship nor charges are above the law

Sheinbaum defends that neither friendship nor charges are above the law

President Claudia Sheinbaum spoke about the preventive detention issued against the former director of Pemex, Víctor Rodríguez Padilla, accused of family aggression and vicarious violence. In his morning conference, he stated that “neither friendship nor charges are above the law.”

We all saw a video that the victim uploaded to social networks where it is evident that there is violence on the part of Víctor; In that case, as in all, that is very important: neither friendship nor positions are above the law. That has always been our position and that is how we will always act.

Sheinbaum added that it is up to the Morelos Prosecutor’s Office to determine the procedure. On Wednesday, Judge Adriana Carrera Ortiz imposed the precautionary measure after reviewing the elements of the investigation file, made up of the complaint of family and vicarious abuse against the wife and youngest daughter of the former official.

Details of the case and defense of the victims

The act of aggression was recorded in a video released by the victim herself, which occurred in a home in the Country Club subdivision, in Emiliano Zapata, Morelos. Sheinbaum reiterated: “We will always defend the victims.”

The president also referred to the resolution of the Michoacán Court that determined that Senator Gerardo Fernández Noroña exercised gender-based political violence against Mayor Grecia Quiroz. The senator announced that he will appeal the ruling. Sheinbaum pointed out that “the corresponding authorities” must resolve it and stressed his commitment to the victims.

According to the ruling, Fernández Noroña demeaned the management of the mayor, who took office after the death of her husband, Carlos Manzo. Sheinbaum concluded: “Be with the victims and with justice, always.”

FGR identifies the pilot of the plane that took El Mayo to the US

Authorities know the identity of the pilot, but do not reveal it; is located in the United States.

The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) confirmed that it has already identified the pilot of the aircraft that took Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada to the United States on July 25, 2024. Prosecutor Ernestina Godoy assured that they have his identity, but they did not make it public.

“We have also identified the person who piloted it… navigation services in Mexican airspace provided the audio of the moment in which the pilot of the aircraft that transported Ismael ‘N’ requested the control tower of the Ciudad Juárez airport, Chihuahua, for transponder codes to enter the United States. In addition, through expert opinions on audio, the identification of the pilot was achieved,” Godoy explained.

The pilot is in US territory

David Boone, head of the Specialized Regional Control Prosecutor’s Office, explained that the pilot is currently in the United States. According to Boone, the US authorities deported him to Mexico, but here he was detained for crimes committed, including carrying a firearm, and later handed over to the US government.

A file was opened on the case, although it was not specified whether the pilot was interrogated by Mexican authorities before his surrender.

“The pilot was deported, he continued to operate committing crimes in Mexico; this is the information that appears. He was arrested for carrying a weapon and was handed over, based on the National Security Law, to the United States government. This is the situation that appears in the file regarding the pilot,” said Boone.

The FGR has not revealed the identity of the pilot or the charges he faces in the United States. The case remains under reserve.
