A hit with history
President Claudia Sheinbaum dropped a bombshell at the IPN: the Gertrudis Bocanegra Scholarship will be universal for all undergraduate students in Chiapas. 56,911 young people, without exception, will receive this support. It is not just any advertisement, it is a play that connects the revolutionary past with the student present.
“You are now going to have a scholarship, everyone is going to have a scholarship, as a continuation of the Benito Juárez Scholarship and it bears the name of this great woman: Gertrudis Bocanegra.”
Sheinbaum not only promises money, he sends a message: being professional is a patriotic act. The president reminded them that when they receive the Banco del Bienestar card, they should think about “those heroes and heroines.” The responsibility, he said, is clear: “technique at the service of the country.”
The plan in three acts
The Ministry of Public Education already has everything scheduled. First, informational assemblies in the entity’s 82 schools during the next week. Then, from May 25 to 31, the official registration. Finally, between June and July, the delivery of cards.
The federal government thus adds these young people to the almost 23 million scholarship recipients that already exist throughout the country. The goal: that the efforts of the Chiapas students do not stop due to lack of resources. Sounds good? Yes, but you always have to look at the fine print. For now, it is a promise kept in the political theater.
