President Claudia Sheinbaum led the flag ceremony of the Mexican delegation that will participate in the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games. The competition will take place from July 24 to August 8 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Flagging at the National Palace
In the Treasury Hall, Sheinbaum took oath to the athletes and presented them with the national flag.
“Representing Mexico is something unique. Every time you start a competition, think about this great, resilient, hard-working people who always come out ahead.”
The president highlighted the efforts of the athletes, coaches and technical teams. He also thanked the families for their support, which he described as essential to fulfilling his dreams.
The general director of Conade, Rommel Pacheco, reported that 60 million pesos are invested for Mexican participation. He pointed out that these games are the centenary of the oldest regional competition in the world and are part of the path to Los Angeles 2028.
Defense of the female vote
During the same event, Sheinbaum spoke out against positions that question women’s right to vote. He described these ideas as “outside of reality” and linked to conservative sectors.
“What is behind a person who thinks that women cannot vote? They use the word freedom, what freedom, if women cannot vote or if they have to take an exam before voting? It is a very authoritarian vision against freedoms and democracy.”
The president recalled that the vote in Mexico is individual and that all votes are equal before the law. He noted that any attempt to restrict it is undemocratic.
“Who is going to agree that in the family only the father votes? It is absurd, undemocratic, regressive, pro-partisan, conservative.”
The event was attended by the Secretaries of Education and Finance, the Undersecretary of Defense, the President of the Mexican Olympic Committee and the athlete Yareli Acevedo.
