Severance leads the 2025 Emmy nominations with 27 nominations
The science fiction series “Severance”, produced by Apple TV+, was positioned as the great favorite at the 2025 Emmy Awards by obtaining 27 nominations, including Best Drama Series. This dystopian thriller, which explores the surgical division between the personal and work lives of its characters, also stood out in the acting categories. Adam Scott and Britt Lower will compete for best leading actor and actress, respectively, while Patricia Arquette, John Turturro, Tramell Tillman and Zach Cherry are up for the supporting award.
The tightest competition
In second place, with 24 nominations, was “The Penguin”, the HBO Max Batman spin-off starring Colin Farrell. Other notable productions were “The Studio” (Apple TV+) and “The White Lotus”, both with 23 mentions. In the dramatic field, “The Pitt”, an intense medical portrait set in Pittsburgh, achieved 13 nominations, including Best Series and Best Actor for Noah Wyle.
Casts and surprises in comedy and miniseries
In comedy, “The Studio” stood out for the performances of Seth Rogen (nominated in three categories), Kathryn Hahn and Catherine O’Hara. For its part, “Adolescence” (Netflix), a family drama about an alleged homicide, dominated the miniseries category with nominations for Stephen Graham and newcomer Owen Cooper.
Andor: 14 nominations and one notable absence
The series “Andor”, starring Mexican Diego Luna, received 14 nominations, including Best Drama Series, script, direction and visual effects. However, Luna was not considered for Best Actor, an omission that raised eyebrows given his central role as Cassian Andor. Lucasfilm’s production also competes in technical categories such as production design, costumes and sound mixing.
Ceremony and expectations
The 77th Emmy Awards will be held on September 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. With “Severance” as the main contender, the night promises to be a battle between platforms, with Apple TV+ and HBO Max taking the lead.
