The immediate impact of a ‘super sub’
Benjamin Sesko has done it again. The forward came off the bench and, 13 minutes later, scored the only goal of the game. A 1-0 against Everton that tastes like gold for Manchester United’s aspirations.
It was the third time in the last four games that Sesko scored after entering as a substitute. It’s not luck, it’s pure effectiveness.
“I believe in myself and the other players do too. They know what they are going to get when I go into the game. It’s up to me to deliver, of course,” Sesko told Sky Sports.
His finish, with 19 minutes remaining, was a flash of quality in a gray match. Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha set it up with a lethal counterattack, and Sesko finished with the coolness of a veteran.
“It was a great finish. It was a relentless finish,” said Michael Carrick, the interim coach. “I liked the way he solved it with real confidence.”
Until that moment, the match was a defensive battle where the heavy grass did not help the game. But a moment of lucidity was enough for United to take the three points.
A triumph with double value
This victory not only consolidates United in fourth place, three points ahead of their pursuers. It also extends Carrick’s unbeaten run in charge to six games.
For Everton, however, it is a hard blow. Seven games without winning and already far from the fight for Europe. David Moyes recognized the harshness of the setback.
“Overall we did very well in many aspects,” said the Scottish coach. “They punished us on the counterattack… We made a great effort to score the goal, but we lacked the quality.”
While Everton sinks into ninth position, United continues its upward path. And he has a key name in this takeoff: Benjamin Sesko. The man who is deciding games from the bench.
