SEP implements digital certificate to verify doctors’ IDs

New digital platform to validate medical credentials and combat the illegal exercise of the profession.

SEP Implements the Certificate of Professional Status for Professionals

The Secretary of Public Education (SEP), through the General Directorate of Professions (DGP), has launched a highly relevant digital instrument: the Proof of Professional Status (CSP). This electronic document represents a significant advance in the modernization of public services, allowing immediate consultation of the academic history and credentials of any professional in the country. This initiative is part of the government’s effort to execute the largest digital transformation in the history of Mexico, aligning with the new national legislation designed to eliminate obsolete bureaucratic procedures. Access to this service is available for free on the official portal: cedulaprofesional.sep.gob.mx/cedula-profesional.

The consultation mechanism has been designed with an accessible interface, guaranteeing that anyone, whether a potential patient, a health institution or a company, can verify the authenticity of a professional’s documents in a matter of minutes. This process, which previously could take days or weeks, has been radically simplified, resulting in greater efficiency and transparency in regulated professional practice.

A Special Focus on Patient Safety in Plastic Surgery

One of the primary objectives of this new tool is to strengthen patient safety, particularly in sensitive areas such as plastic, aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. The platform allows you to reliably verify that doctors specializing in these disciplines have a current professional license and the corresponding certificates. Authorities have placed particular emphasis on this sector due to the inherent risks associated with procedures performed by unqualified personnel.

To ensure safe medical practice, the General Directorate of Professions has issued a series of crucial recommendations aimed at patients. Before undergoing any intervention, it is imperative to confirm that the surgeon has the documentation that fully accredits it. This validation is the most effective barrier to ensure that the procedures are carried out under the highest standards of ethics, quality and safety, thus minimizing the risks to the health of the population.

The mandatory documentation that every plastic surgeon must present and that can be compared on the new platform includes:

Professional license for a general practitioner, issued exclusively by the General Directorate of Professions.

Professional certificate of specialist in Plastic, Aesthetic and/or Reconstructive Surgery, also issued by the DGP.

Current certificate of specialty, granted by the Mexican Council of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery, A.C., an entity recognized by the National Regulatory Committee of Councils of Medical Specialties (CONACEM).

Fraud Fight and Advanced System Functionalities

The Proof of Professional Status is not limited to the simple display of an ID. It is conceived as a verifiable and comprehensive digital professional curriculum that brings together various aspects of an individual’s career. In addition to the professional title, it records information on membership, microcredentials, additional certifications and acquired transversal skills. This robust compilation of data strengthens authenticity in professional practice and constitutes a powerful tool to reduce fraud and document falsifications.

The design of the CSP allows us to formally recognize the capabilities, skills and specific knowledge that professionals have acquired throughout their working life and continuous training. By replacing physical paper processes, not only is verification streamlined, but it also favors the employability of graduates, facilitates educational mobility and speeds up access to scholarship programs and job opportunities, both nationally and internationally.

The historical dimension of this project is considerable. In its eight decades of operation, the General Directorate of Professions has registered more than 15 million IDs. With the impetus of this digital transformation, the SEP plans to issue 15 million additional certifications and micro-credentials in the near future. This massive expansion will be possible thanks to strategic collaboration with higher education institutions, certifying entities and business sector organizations.

The acceptance of the platform by citizens has been extraordinary. In less than a month of operations, the system has exceeded 800 thousand downloads of records and has registered more than two million queries. This level of adoption reflects a clear market need for reliable and easily accessible tools. The future work of the SEP will focus on encouraging professionals, institutions and companies to incorporate certifications linked to the strategic sectors defined in the National Development Plan, with the ultimate objective of strengthening the formation of highly qualified human capital in Mexico.

Three are linked to trial for kidnapping Indians in Juárez

Three alleged members of the Northeast Cartel, arrested for the kidnapping of five Indians in Juárez.

A Control judge linked Tomás “N”, Diana “N” and Jaqueline “N” to the trial for their probable responsibility in organized crime crimes for the purposes of kidnapping and aggravated kidnapping. The victims were five citizens of India, kidnapped in June 2025 in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua.

As a precautionary measure, the three defendants were placed in informal preventive detention in State Prisons 2 and 3 of the entity. The judge granted four months for the complementary investigation.

Investigation and capture

The case began when the Consul of the Indian Embassy in Mexico reported via email that five compatriots were deprived of their liberty. Based on that notice, the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime (FEMDO) began the investigations.

Days later, agents of the Federal Ministerial Police, experts from the Federal Forensic Expert Center and elements of the National Guard executed a search warrant in five homes in Ciudad Juárez. Before these operations, the victims had already been released. During the investigations, they located the three men identified, who had current arrest warrants; They were secured and placed at the disposal of the judge.

Regional context

The connection to the process of these individuals—presumably linked to the Northeast Cartel—evidences the challenge that organized crime represents in the border area. The authorities have indicated that this type of crime affects both Mexican citizens and foreigners, and they maintain operations to dismantle kidnapping networks.

Families celebrate Father’s Day in the Zócalo with a calm atmosphere

Parents and children enjoyed the Fan Fest in the Zócalo on Sunday.

This Sunday, the plaza of the capital’s Zócalo welcomed families who came to celebrate Father’s Day. The Fan Fest, installed in the Historic Center, was the meeting point for those looking to mingle and watch the Mexican National Team match.

Roberto arrived accompanied by his wife Paola and his baby Ramsés. With the National Team shirt, they sought to follow the game and have a pleasant time.

“I think it’s nice to spend the day together as a family. We came prepared to watch the game and have a nice time. We wanted to take advantage of Father’s Day to be together,” he commented.

Despite the enthusiasm, Roberto pointed out that the turnout was smaller than expected.

“We thought there would be many more people because of the game and the date, but it was calmer than we imagined,” he added.

Víctor Manuel came with his son – of the same name -, his sister-in-law and two grandchildren. The family considered the experience positive to live together and share activities.

“It’s cool that they do this type of events because you can come with your family, watch football and have a good time without spending so much,” he commented.

The grandchildren enjoyed the atmosphere and the activities available. Víctor Manuel also noticed fewer visitors than expected.

“Yes, it caught our attention that there were few people; we thought it would be much more crowded for Father’s Day and the game,” he said.

The day passed without any reported incidents. Families took advantage of the public space to celebrate in a festive environment but with smaller attendance than at similar events.
