School support or late electoral promise?
The Ministry of Public Education (SEP) launched the call for the Rita Cetina Scholarship program. They say it’s for uniforms and supplies. Registration closes March 19.
Here is the detail that they do not shout: the deposit of the money will arrive between July and August 2026. That is, more than a year after registration. Does anyone remember when the next federal elections are? Pure coincidence, of course.
The national coordinator of Scholarships, Julio León Trujillo, reported that there are already 5 million 268 thousand 571 students enrolled.
The figure sounds impressive. It was achieved after 82 thousand informational assemblies. More than 4 million tutors participated. A huge operational deployment.
But my legal mind is beeping. An annual support of 2,500 pesos per student. The cards will be delivered in May. The money, much later. The calendar is… curious.
Is this genuine education policy or a disguised electoral roll exercise? Memory is short, but precedents speak. When a social benefit arrives with perfect timing and massive dispersion, you always have to read the fine print.
Register your children, yes. Demand transparency, too. And remember: in politics, free things always have a hidden cost.
