Unjustified absences
For the third consecutive session, Senator Enrique Inzunza Cázarez did not attend the Permanent Commission of the Congress of the Union. The Morena legislator has not appeared since April 29, when the United States Department of Justice named him and nine other current and former Sinaloa officials for alleged links to criminal groups.
Inzunza Cázarez missed the installation of the Permanent Commission, three ordinary sessions and one solemn session, without informing the Board of Directors of the reasons. Instead, he was replaced in the installation by Senator Simey Olvera and in two subsequent sessions by Senator Alejandro Murat.
However, in this Thursday’s session it was not specified on the electronic board who occupied their seat. The Citizen Movement deputy, Pablo Vázquez, pointed out the irregularity:
“To denounce that it could be a very serious anomaly, I draw the attention of the assembly to the calculation of this quorum session. Because here on the screen I was counting eight senators from Morena between substitutes and substitutes. However, it is not specified who is replacing whom.”
Vázquez added that since basic rules of the Permanent Commission have not been approved, cross substitutions are not allowed. “It would have to be stipulated there who is replacing whom, by the Morena senators, because, for example, we do not see that Senator Inzunza, who has been missing for two weeks in a row, who is replacing him,” he indicated.
For now it is unknown if Inzunza will request leave for his substitute to attend next week’s special session.
