Salah’s last play at Anfield
Friend, this hurts even those of us who are not Liverpool fans. Mohamed Salah left the field against Crystal Palace with an injury that could be his final farewell to the red house.
On Saturday, in the 2-1 victory, the Egyptian felt a pull in his hamstring. And it wasn’t just any injury: Arne Slot, the coach, admitted that he doesn’t know when he will be ready again.
“I don’t know how long he’ll be gone,” Slot said with that mixture of worry and resignation that we all feel.
The context that no one wants to face
Salah ends his contract in June. And this injury comes just when the rumors about his departure were louder than ever. Chance? Maybe. Low blow of destiny? Sure.
But here is my reflection as a former runner: injuries do not define an athlete. What defines is how you respond afterwards. And Salah has shown a thousand times that he knows how to get up.
Fans are worried, and rightly so. The Egyptian has been the team’s offensive engine all season. But if sport teaches us anything, it is that the most epic stories are born from the hardest falls.
We will see if this is his last dance at Anfield or if there is one more chapter to write.
