The Governor of Sinaloa and the Health Dream Team meet at the National Palace
Ah, National Palace, that place where politicians get together to drink expensive coffee and decide the future of the country between selfies. This time, the host was none other than Claudia Sheinbaum, who convened a select group of governors (including Sinaloan Rubén Rocha Moya) to talk about something that matters to us all: public health. Spoiler: there was no drama, just compromises.
IMSS Bienestar: The magic solution or just another project?
On the discussion table was the IMSS Wellbeing Program, that plan that promises free, universal and quality medical care (yes, like a unicorn, but in a health system version). The star issues: the supply of medicines (because what good is a hospital if there are no aspirin?) and the medical infrastructure (read: that the ceilings do not fall while you are being operated on).
Rocha Moya, in “Sinaloa fits into everything” mode, reaffirmed his commitment to the project. In other words, he basically said: “Yes, I’ll pull, but don’t let the resources be lacking.” Because, let’s be honest, without a budget, even the best plan turns into a forgotten PowerPoint.
And he was not alone. The meeting was like an All-Star of governors: from Sonora to Tabasco, passing through Puebla, Veracruz and even CDMX. All with the same mission: coordinate efforts so that the health system does not collapse like a viral meme.
On the federal side, the heavyweights: David Kersenobich (Secretary of Health), Zoé Robledo (Director of the IMSS) and Martí Batres (Director of the ISSSTE). Come on, the “influencers” of the medical bureaucracy.
And now what’s next?
There are many promises, but the million dollar question is: will they be fulfilled? The IMSS Bienestar sounds good on paper, but in a country where even getting a medical appointment is an ordeal, skepticism is understandable. Of course, if something was clear, it is that, at least in the speech, everyone is on the same page (for now).
