The Stones are back at it with Foreign Tongues
Inside the converted Williamsburgh Savings Bank in Brooklyn, a place that seems straight out of a period movie, the Rolling Stones put together a VIP event that left everyone wanting more. The band confirmed that their new album, Foreign Tongues, will arrive on July 10, and they have already released the first single, “In The Stars.”
The advertisement with humor and stars
To make it more epic, they invited comedian Conan O’Brien to host the ad. It was a total success. “I think this is the one, after years of working in obscurity,” O’Brien joked, as celebrities including Leonardo DiCaprio and Lindsey Vonn waited in the room. The chemistry between the band and Conan was pure gold.
Album details
Foreign Tongues was recorded in a month in London and brings an emotional surprise: a posthumous participation by Charlie Watts, the drummer who died in 2021. Jagger described the song as “a punk-rock piece, fast and vibrant.” In addition, the album features luxury collaborations: Steve Winwood, Paul McCartney, Robert Smith of The Cure and Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers.
“Paul (McCartney) really wanted to get involved. There was no intimidation. He wanted to play with the band,” Jagger said.
Producer Andrew Watt, known for working with Post Malone, was also at the helm. The band noted that he gets them going when something isn’t flowing in the studio. Even his parents were in the room, applauding like crazy.
The art and the clues
The album cover, called “Mr. Ugly” by Jagger, is a work of artist Nathaniel Quinn. It is a mix of the members’ faces, symbolizing their journey. And for the most dedicated fans, the Stones played with clues: from “The Cockroaches” posters in London to a limited-edition vinyl of “Rough and Twisted.” Quite a detective game that ended in this ad.
Foreign Tongues promises to be a nostalgic but fresh trip, with that irreverent touch that only the Stones know how to give. Ready for July 10?
