The university dream that disappeared in 25 minutes
There they were, the Pumas, with the hope in their backpack and the faith of all of Mexico in their boots. The plan? Win, advance and dream of glory in the Leagues Cup. But football, that cruel *spoiler* of life, reminded them that happy endings are for Disney+. In less than half an hour, the Auriazul team went from “let’s go for the win!” to “when did everything go to hell?”.
The illusion lasted as long as a viral TikTok
Everything started well (as always, until it didn’t). Jorge Ruvalcaba, the unexpected hero, scored a great goal that made the university fans vibrate. Pedro Vite’s assistance was so precise that even a surgeon would have signed that pass. “It’s going to be our day!” the fans shouted. Spoiler: it wasn’t.
Because, of course, on the other team was Luis Suárez, the guy who eats defenses for breakfast. The Uruguayan, like a good soap opera villain, decided that this would not be the happy chapter for the Pumas. First, he assisted Rodrigo De Paul (yes, the Argentine who finally scored and stopped being an NPC on the team). Then, he himself took it upon himself to stick the knife in with a *panenka* style penalty, because what better way to humiliate than with a goal that looks like a meme?
And if that were not enough, Tadeo Allende appeared to finish the job. The Pumas, at that moment, already looked like those video game characters that lose life in slow motion while you scream: “CURE, IDIOT!” But there was no cure. Only the final whistle and the harsh reality: goodbye to the Leagues Cup.
And now what, Pumas?
The team is left with that bitter taste of “almost.” They almost advanced, they almost made it, they were almost heroes. But in football, “almosts” are not worth it. Now it’s time to return to the Liga MX, where, if we know one thing, it is that the drama never ends. Perhaps this elimination is the push they need to stop being the team that promises and start being the one that delivers. Or maybe not. Time will tell (and we, the fans, will suffer).
