The coordinator of the State Executive Commission of the Labor Party (PT), Vicente Aguilar Aguilar, considered that the recent increase in the public transportation rate in Xalapa was necessary, although he admitted that it should have been announced more in advance and accompanied by clear commitments to improve the quality of the service that users receive.
In an interview, the PT leader explained that the adjustment is due to a delay of several years without updating rates; However, he stressed that the increase will only be justified if it is reflected in better units, greater comfort and dignified treatment of citizens.
“From our point of view, the increase was necessary, but it should have been announced in advance. Now the important thing is that this increase really benefits citizens,” he said.
Aguilar Aguilar highlighted that discounts for seniors and students are maintained, which helps mitigate the social impact of the adjustment. However, he acknowledged that the increase does affect the family economy, especially in a context of unemployment and economic difficulties.
In that sense, he called on Governor Norma Rocío Nahle García to evaluate the impact of the increase and reconsider that the adjustment does not represent increases of up to 50 percent, at least until the results are reviewed and real improvements in the service are confirmed.
“It does affect, of course it does. That is why we believe that it should be evaluated first and wait a prudent time before maintaining an increase of that magnitude,” he pointed out.
Revocation of mandate must go through Congress
On another topic, the state coordinator of the PT referred to the revocation of the mandate, which he described as an important democratic exercise promoted at the national level, but which — he said — must pass legally through the State Congress before being applied in Veracruz.
He pointed out that no ruler should undergo this process without a legal framework approved by the local Legislative Branch and considered that this mechanism could be analyzed with a view to the year 2028.
Aguilar Aguilar assured that, once Congress defines the rules, the PT will support what is established and trusted that Governor Rocío Nahle would abide by any decision, as she is, he stated, a woman with democratic conviction.
Criticizes “chapulineo” and political opportunism
The PT leader also criticized politicians who, after reaching office for a party, abandon their initials to seek personal benefits, a practice known as “chapulineo.”
As an example, he mentioned the case of the mayor of Zaragoza, who won as an independent candidate and subsequently – he assured – left his community unprotected after changing political alliances, a situation that has led to problems such as the delay in the arrival of municipal resources.
“They are opportunists, ungrateful and traitors to the citizen vote,” he stated, recognizing that these types of practices occur in all parties, including the PT, due to the lack of a more in-depth review of the background of some candidates.
He concluded that these behaviors damage citizen trust and must be eradicated to strengthen democratic life in Veracruz.
