A Milestone in the Administration of Justice of Aguascalientes
In a solemn ceremony held this Friday, the 65 judges and magistrate heads elected in the process last June protested to integrate the new Judicial Branch of the State of Aguascalientes. Unlike traditional ceremonies, the new judicial officials attended without robes, wearing dark suits, in a gesture that symbolizes a new approach to the administration of justice. The formal start of its functions is scheduled for September 1, 2025, marking the beginning of a new stage for the state judicial system.
The solemn session, held at the headquarters of the Local Congress, was attended by the governorTeresa Jiménez Esquivel. In her speech, the state president urged the new judges to perform their duties with the highest sensitivity, responsibility and professionalism. He underlined his unwavering commitment to collaborate in a close and coordinated manner with the Judicial and Legislative Branches. The central objective of this inter-power collaboration is to guarantee that Aguascalientes remains a state where legality, unrestricted respect for institutions and the indispensable balance of powers prevail.
Composition and Scope of the New Judicial Body
The oath taken included the most relevant figures in the judicial structure. The magistrates of the Supreme Court of Justice and the Judicial Disciplinary Court of the State of Aguascalientes protested. Simultaneously, the First Instance judges who will make up the renewed state Judiciary also took their oath. This wide range of specialties includes Labor, Auxiliary Justice, Oral Commercial, Criminal, Traditional Commercial, Civil, Family and Mixed jurisdictions, ensuring comprehensive coverage of all areas of law.
The protocol event took place in the emblematic Concert Hall of the Tres Centurias Railway Complex, a space that reflects the convergence between the history and modernity of the state. The ceremony had significant legislative representation, with the participation of 27 local deputies. The deputy president of Congress, Arlette Muñoz, together with her counterparts, emphasized that this process substantially strengthens two fundamental pillars: transparency and social participation. This model, they highlighted, explicitly places citizens at the center of the decisions that will define the direction of the judicial system in the coming years.
The ceremony also witnessed the presence of high state authorities, including the Attorney General, Manuel Alonso, which denotes the importance of coordination between the Public Ministry and the new judicial branch. The attendance was completed by federal legislators, acting municipal presidents and representatives of various social sectors, consolidating the event as a moment of institutional unity.
Implications and Projection of the New Judicial System
The 11 magistrates that make up the Supreme Court of Justice of the State, elected by direct popular vote, will begin their activities next Monday. This election method represents in itself a significant democratic advance, bringing the appointment of those most responsible for justice closer to the will of the citizens. At the same time, the Judicial Disciplinary Court, made up of five magistrates also elected, will play a crucial role in the new judicial ecosystem. Its work will focus on surveillance, scrutiny of judicial actions and guaranteeing effective accountability by all judges.
This renewed Judicial Power is not only made up of its higher bodies. The daily operation of the system will fall to a network of judges specialized in each of the branches of law. The appointment of experts in criminal, civil, commercial, labor, family and mixed matters ensures that the citizens of Aguascalientes will have access to specialized, expeditious and quality justice. The implementation of this model seeks to optimize response times, improve efficiency in dispute resolution and strengthen society’s trust in its institutions.
This process of total renewal of the Judicial Branch is seen by analysts as one of the most profound institutional transformations in the recent history of Aguascalientes. It sets a national precedent in terms of transparency in the selection of judges and magistrates, and it is expected that its implementation will serve as a model to follow for other federal entities seeking to modernize their justice delivery system.
