Relay in the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office
The governor of Chihuahua, María Eugenia Campos Galván, appointed Javier Sánchez Herrera as head of the Office of the Prosecutor’s Office Specialized in Strategic Operations. The announcement comes a week after his predecessor, Guillermo Arturo Zuany Portillo, resigned from office amid investigations into an operation in the municipality of Morelos.
The operation sought to find a clandestine laboratory in that region. So far no public details have been revealed about the progress of the investigations.
Career path of the new official
Sánchez Herrera served as director of Expert Services and Forensic Sciences of the State Attorney General’s Office. In that position he participated in the identification of remains and in part of the investigation of the Crematorium Plenitude case, which occurred in Ciudad Juárez.
His experience in the forensic area will be key for the new assignment. At the moment, it has not been reported who will occupy the direction of Expert Services, which remains vacant after his departure.
The movement occurs in a context of internal review in the Chihuahua Prosecutor’s Office, after the controversies generated by the operation in Morelos. The appointment seeks to provide continuity to the work of the unit in charge of strategic operations.
