Constitution of a Strategic Network for Equality
In an act of great political significance, the Senate of the Republic witnessed the protocol signing that formally establishes the Tamaulipas chapter of the Colectivo 50+1. This network is characterized by its frontal fight against gender-based violence, its unwavering commitment to substantive equality and the promotion of female empowerment. The event marked a milestone in promoting the determined participation of women in the public sphere in Mexico, bringing together figures with a consolidated career in activism and public service.
The senator for Tamaulipas, Olga Patricia Sosa Ruíz, served as main spokesperson during the event, explaining that this group represents a plural force dedicated to promoting a structural transformation in society. In her speech, she specified that the group acts as a voice for thousands of anonymous women whose daily struggles are oriented toward building a more promising future. Sosa Ruíz, who is a member of this group made up of Tamaulipas with outstanding careers, emphasized that the operational foundation of the organization is mutual respect, essential to building spaces for genuine dialogue and freedom that lead to a more inclusive, fair and egalitarian society.
Background and Projection of a National Movement
The senator contextualized this achievement within an unprecedented historical moment for Mexico, highlighting that, for the first time, the country has a woman exercising the Presidency of the Republic. She underlined the symbolism of Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, whose political career is widely recognized, having coordinated the defense of oil in 2008 through the collective effort of the Adelitas, a movement that set a fundamental precedent for contemporary women’s organization.
This tireless activism, he explained, has yielded tangible fruits in the configuration of power in Mexico. Among the most notable achievements is the achievement of gender parity in the Congress of the Union and the election of 13 women to state governorships. These data show that women have become indisputable protagonists of the cultural, political and social change that the nation demands. The signing of this chapter is not an isolated act, but a concrete action that reaffirms the commitment to continue the fight for the rights of mothers and daughters, ensuring that the progress achieved is consolidated and expanded.
The event included the participation of a plural representation of female leaders, including senators Malú Michel, Amalia García, Karen Castrejón, Yeidckol Polevsky, Carolina Viggiano, Imelda Sanmiguel and Maki Ortiz. Their collective presence reinforces the transversal nature of the movement. Completing the list of high-level attendees are the National President of 50+1, Claudia Corichi, and the President of the newly formed Tamaulipas chapter, Andrea García, who will be in charge of directing the organization’s efforts in the entity.
