Morena vs. PRI: Political violence or electoral crime?
This is not just any rally. Morena has just dropped a bomb: she reported attempted feminicide against Delia Aurora Hernández Alvarado, her candidate for District 4 in Coahuila. The attack occurred in San Pedro, and according to the party, it was an act of organized political violence. Verbatim words: “put the lives of our colleagues at risk.”
“What happened was an act of organized political violence that, due to its magnitude, put the lives of our colleagues at risk”
Who is behind it? Morena takes direct aim at Édgar Sánchez, candidate of the PRI-Democratic Unity of Coahuila. The reason? I was at the scene when everything happened. The district coordinator and her team were attacked by a group armed with bats and irons while they were campaigning. It’s no coincidence, they say.
The demands: it is not a simple incident
Morena does not remain silent. He asks the State Attorney General’s Office to investigate as an attempted homicide, not as a “simple” attack. They demand that they not minimize direct threats against a local representative. They are also going against the Electoral Institute of Coahuila: they want protection measures now.
“very serious” that during the electoral process there are political actors who use shock groups with the purpose of “imposing terror where they cannot win with popular support”
The party calls this an attempt to silence those who think differently. But they promise to continue: “In Morena they are not going to intimidate us. We are going to continue organizing and traveling the territory more firmly than ever.”
And the Prosecutor’s Office? Morena demands punishment for the intellectual and material authors, and guarantees so that people can vote on June 7. The ball is in your court. Meanwhile, the electoral atmosphere in Coahuila is heating up more than a comal.
