Morena denounces attempted feminicide against her candidate in Coahuila

Morena accuses PRI candidate of attacking his candidate with bats and irons in Coahuila.

Morena vs. PRI: Political violence or electoral crime?

This is not just any rally. Morena has just dropped a bomb: she reported attempted feminicide against Delia Aurora Hernández Alvarado, her candidate for District 4 in Coahuila. The attack occurred in San Pedro, and according to the party, it was an act of organized political violence. Verbatim words: “put the lives of our colleagues at risk.”

“What happened was an act of organized political violence that, due to its magnitude, put the lives of our colleagues at risk”

Who is behind it? Morena takes direct aim at Édgar Sánchez, candidate of the PRI-Democratic Unity of Coahuila. The reason? I was at the scene when everything happened. The district coordinator and her team were attacked by a group armed with bats and irons while they were campaigning. It’s no coincidence, they say.

The demands: it is not a simple incident

Morena does not remain silent. He asks the State Attorney General’s Office to investigate as an attempted homicide, not as a “simple” attack. They demand that they not minimize direct threats against a local representative. They are also going against the Electoral Institute of Coahuila: they want protection measures now.

“very serious” that during the electoral process there are political actors who use shock groups with the purpose of “imposing terror where they cannot win with popular support”

The party calls this an attempt to silence those who think differently. But they promise to continue: “In Morena they are not going to intimidate us. We are going to continue organizing and traveling the territory more firmly than ever.”

And the Prosecutor’s Office? Morena demands punishment for the intellectual and material authors, and guarantees so that people can vote on June 7. The ball is in your court. Meanwhile, the electoral atmosphere in Coahuila is heating up more than a comal.

Cuauhtémoc opens training center for women in violence

200 women will receive job training and support to rebuild their lives.

The Cuauhtémoc mayor’s office announced the opening of “Las Amazonas”, a training center aimed at women in situations of violence. The objective is to offer tools to access employment, generate their own income and strengthen their economic autonomy.

A space for independence

In the first stage, 200 women will benefit from job courses, certifications, educational regularization and leadership training. CECATI 62, FES Acatlán, financial education organizations and representatives of the business sector participate to facilitate employment relationships.

The project was finalized after the signing of a commitment letter with educational institutions, civil organizations and companies.

Mayor Alessandra Rojo de la Vega highlighted that more than 80% of the attention of the Executive Directorate of Gender Equality is related to family violence, which generates economic dependence.

“This last branch of our comprehensive strategy is going to help us, which is the recovery of women’s lives. Being able to be independent, being able to get ahead, being able to have a life without having to go through these atrocities that we encounter every day,” he said.

The center is part of the mayor’s Violeta strategy, which provides psychological and legal support and opportunities for women to rebuild their life projects.

El Niño 2026: high probability of strong intensity

The climate phenomenon would arrive with a high probability in the second half of 2026.

El Niño forecast for 2026: what to expect in Mexico?

According to the June forecast of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration of the United States (NOAA), there is a greater than 95% probability that the El Niño phenomenon will occur during the second half of 2026. The researcher at the Institute of Atmospheric Sciences and Climate Change at UNAM, Jorge Zavala Hidalgo, reported that the intensity could be between strong or very strong.

“Although the probability of occurrence is high, uncertainty persists about its final intensity,” said the specialist.

El Niño is an anomalous warming of the surface waters of the equatorial Pacific Ocean. Its opposite phase, La Niña, brings different conditions.

Effects on the country’s climate

Starting in July 2026, a decrease in precipitation compared to the historical average is expected. The rains typical of the season will continue, but with less intensity. This pattern would continue until spring 2027 in the center, south and Yucatán Peninsula. In the northwest, especially Baja California, above-average rainfall usually occurs during the first months of the year.

The relationship between temperature and precipitation is direct: less rain means higher temperatures. In 2024, for example, low rainfall was accompanied by record temperatures.

Additional risks

The combination of high temperatures and low humidity increases the risk of forest fires. Zavala Hidalgo recommended being attentive between February and May, when these conditions are usually more critical. Fires, in turn, worsen air quality by increasing particles and compounds that promote the formation of ozone.

He also warned that the heat accumulated in the equatorial Pacific moves towards the Mexican coasts, increasing the oceanic heat content. This can accelerate the intensification of hurricanes to categories 3, 4 or 5, although he clarified that it is not enough on its own to guarantee their formation.
