Man arrested for shooting at Centro Médico Metro station

The rapid police intervention achieved the arrest of the suspect and the seizure of the arsenal after the recorded events.

Armed Incident at the Medical Center Metro Ends with Arrest

A 54-year-old individual was apprehended by elements of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) of Mexico City after being involved in a serious altercation inside the Centro Médico station of the Metro Collective Transportation System. The subject, whose behavior generated panic among users, was identified after detonating with a firearm in the vicinity of the transportation complex.

The situation, recorded on video by witnesses, shows the man walking through the corridors of the station with his weapon drawn and visible, while several people sought refuge and asked for help. The speed with which the audiovisual material spread on social networks showed the magnitude of the altercation and the vulnerability perceived in the public space.

Coordinated Response and Evidence Assurance

The reaction of the authorities was immediate. Operators from the Command and Control Center (C2) received citizen reports about the presence of gunshots at the intersection of Avenida Cuauhtémoc and Eje 3 Sur, in the Roma Sur neighborhood, an area adjacent to the station. Upon arriving at the scene, the officers interviewed a victim who reported that, after an argument on the stairs leading to the station, the now detained man pulled out his weapon and shot at least once at the ground, in an act of intimidation.

The search for the alleged aggressor culminated in his location and subsequent arrest without any major confrontations being recorded. During the procedure, the police seized a short firearm, which was checked and found to have the characteristics of an instrument for exclusive use of the armed forces. In addition, 28 useful cartridges were seized, strategically distributed in three different magazines, which suggests a significant fire capacity.

One of the most relevant findings was the current identification of a federal military agency that the individual was carrying. This element adds a layer of complexity to the case, since it raises questions about the origin of the weapons and the possible relationship of the detainee with military institutions. The corresponding authorities have initiated investigations to verify the authenticity of the document and determine the administrative and criminal responsibilities that may arise.

Analysis of the Security Context in Public Transportation

This event is part of a broader debate about security in the metro transportation network, which mobilizes millions of capital residents daily. Although incidents with firearms inside the facilities are not frequent, their psychological and social impact is profound, eroding users’ confidence in the protection of mass transit spaces.

The effectiveness of the response of the security protocols and the coordination between C2 and the local police were key factors for the peaceful resolution of this event. However, the episode highlights the constant need to strengthen prevention mechanisms, including greater surveillance, more advanced detection systems and citizen awareness campaigns for the timely reporting of suspicious behavior.

The possession of an arsenal of that magnitude in a place of high human concentration could have had tragic consequences if it had not been for timely intervention. The forensic analysis of the weapon and the cartridges, as well as the life history of the detainee, will be fundamental pieces for the ministerial investigation that is now underway, which seeks to clarify the reasons behind this action and rule out any possible additional threat.

Occupation traffic light for massive events in CDMX

MC legislators propose a system similar to that of Jalisco to avoid crowds.

Federal legislators from Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) are promoting a proposal to implement an occupation traffic light in public spaces in Mexico City. The measure seeks to prevent incidents during mass gatherings, especially ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Proposal for CDMX

Representative Laura Ballesteros pointed out that what happened during the celebrations at the Angel of Independence could have been avoided with better planning and risk management. For this reason, he asked to adopt a system similar to that of Jalisco, which reports the occupancy level in real time using colors.

The traffic light – green, amber or red – would allow attendees to know the capacity available in each area and decide whether to enter or wait. Ballesteros maintained that the security strategy should not be limited to placing screens to distribute to the public, but rather include a comprehensive civil protection plan.

The proposal is presented as a tool to prevent incidents such as that of the Angel of Independence from being repeated. With the 2026 World Cup, CDMX will receive massive events that require clear protocols.

Morena deputy urges combating huachicol as a State priority

Morenoist legislator proposes reforms to stop fuel theft that caused million-dollar losses in 2024.

Morena’s vice coordinator in the Chamber of Deputies, Alfonso Ramírez Cuéllar, stated that the fight against illegal fuel extraction must become a State priority. He assured that the impact of this crime affects national security, public finances and the development of the country.

Legislative proposals

The legislator pointed out the urgency of promoting legal and administrative reforms, as well as toughening criminal sanctions against the networks that operate this crime. He explained that these structures use corruption, front companies and money laundering. He highlighted that the aim is to improve fuel traceability, reinforce surveillance in customs and pipelines, and strengthen controls throughout the distribution chain.

Figures of the problem

Ramírez Cuéllar recalled that, according to data from Petróleos Mexicanos, in 2024 approximately 987 million liters of fuel were stolen. This represents million-dollar losses for Mexico and a high share of illegal fuel in the national market. He argued that combating this phenomenon is key to strengthening public finances and legality in the energy sector. By doing so, he said, the collection, security and well-being of the population will be improved.
