When veterans play, the diamond shakes
If you thought that Sunday softball was just about having a drink and pretending that you know how to hit, the Cañeritos have just given a masterclass on how to master the game. This team, which seems like something out of a spin-off of The Incredibles but with more home runs, swept the Unknowns (level 100 irony, because now everyone is going to know them) in the final of the Veterans Softball League. Two games, two victories, and a clear message: age is just a number, but trophies are eternal.
The game that put softball in “turbo” mode
The first game was as close as a TikTok auction, but in the fifth inning, the Cañeritos activated destroyer mode: a five-run rally that left the rivals more lost than a millennial in a 90s bazaar. Mario De León, the undisputed MVP, hit 4-4, because apparently the word “out” does not exist in his dictionary. Who needs luck when you have sniper precision?
But the second game was straight up a fireworks festival. The Cañeritos decided that softball can also be a high-voltage sport, with home runs that flew more than memes on Twitter. Nahum Ostos excelled with two home runs, one of them with the bases loaded (yes, like in the movies). And if that were not enough, De León and José Tarula joined the party with home runs, while Johnny Pérez, Reynaldo Garza and Luis Hernández contributed their dose of spectacle with a home run each. Bottom line? A score of 33-23 that made it clear that these gentlemen did not come to play, they came to break statistics.
The showcase that never stops growing
With this title, the Cañeritos add another trophy to their collection, which must already be as full as a boomer’s inbox. But beyond the numbers, what matters is the lesson: in veteran softball, passion and experience are the unbeatable combo. And if you add to that some bats that look like something out of a video game, the rest of the teams better get ready… or resign themselves to being spectators.
