Livia Brito temporarily avoided a possible sentence of up to six years in prison and the payment of 1.2 million pesos. A federal judge admitted the amparo requested by his defense to proceed, suspending the criminal process in Mexico City. The case stems from a complaint for false statements after the altercation with paparazzi Ernesto Zepeda in 2020.
According to Erik Rauda, the actress’s lawyer, the scheduled hearing at the South Prison was suspended. This stops any immediate criminal action and stops new hearings. “There is no case to pursue against Livia Brito,” said the litigant, adding that it will be the judge who decides whether the process continues or is dismissed. The defense maintains that the accusation lacks sufficient support.
On Wednesday, June 17, Brito spoke to the media in Mexico City. He showed calm about the judicial decision and reiterated his confidence that the truth will prevail.
“We are going to wait. In any case, it takes time, as I have told you, but I have a lot of faith that the truth will come to light and that everything will be clarified,” he expressed.
The actress also reported on her professional projects: “We have already started a novel, so I am very focused on the projects, on what is coming soon.” He thanked his followers and asked the public for patience in waiting for the judicial resolution. “We’ve been doing all this for six years,” he said.
