A breath of fresh air in the fight for permanence
Lecce needed this. After a difficult streak, the southern team found its way to victory this Monday against Cagliari. A 2-0 that tastes like pure oxygen in the middle of the battle to avoid relegation to Serie B.
The three points are gold. The club remains in 17th place, but now has a three-point cushion over the red zone. In addition, it is equal in score to Cremonese and Genoa, the two it has just above. Every match is a final and they won this one with authority.
The first half was a study, without goals. But after the break, the forcefulness came.
Omri Gandelman opened the scoring with a precise header in the 65th minute.
Eleven minutes later, Ylber Ramadani sealed the afternoon with a powerful shot into the bottom corner. Two clean plays, two goals that are worth much more than just two scores.
This is the second victory in a row for Lecce, which breaks a bad streak of eight games without winning. It is only the second time in the last twelve games that he has managed to score twice in the same game. The statistics speak of the drought they are overcoming.
For Cagliari, however, it is another blow. They suffer their second consecutive defeat and stagnate in 13th place. The table is compressed and each result moves everyone.
The important thing is not only to add, but how it is added. Lecce showed character when they needed it most. At this stage of the season, that’s worth its weight in gold.
