The return of the prodigal son (well, more like the owner’s son)
It seems that Lance Stroll didn’t need a medical miracle, but just a couple of weeks and the love of dad (who, by the way, is the owner of the Aston Martin team) to get back on the track. Yes, the golden boy of Canadian motorsport is ready to compete in the Canadian Grand Prix, because what better place to make his comeback than in front of his audience, eh?
After wrist surgery that kept him out of circulation (and that surely gave him a perfect excuse to avoid doing the dishes for a couple of weeks), the pilot confirmed that he is “excited” to get back behind the wheel. Of course, who wouldn’t be happy to race at home with dad watching from the pit lane?
The corporate statement that no one asked for but we all read
Aston Martin, in an effort to make this seem like a purely sporting and non-family decision, released a statement full of nice words like “successful medical intervention” and “fit and healthy”. They also mentioned that Stroll did some laps at Paul Ricard in an old car, which is basically the equivalent of saying “yes, he can hold the wheel without crying.”
Stroll himself, in a burst of humility (or a well-memorized script), declared: “I always thought about giving everything to be ready to compete in front of the public in Montreal.”. I mean, he basically admitted that he wasn’t going to miss this race even if his arm had to be amputated. Priorities, people.
And while fans speculate whether this was a heroic return or a “well, since we’re here”, the truth is that the show must go on. Will it perform the same? Will it be in optimal condition? Or is it just a whim of the Stroll family? We’ll see that this weekend. But one thing is certain: in Montreal, drama is guaranteed.
