The UAT 2026 Cup started with a party and the example of ‘Diablito’ Chávez

More than 3 thousand people experienced the magic of the largest children's tournament in Tamaulipas.

What a night, what an atmosphere!

More than three thousand souls filled the Prof. Eugenio Alvizo Porras University Stadium. It wasn’t just any game. It was the inauguration of the 42nd edition of the UAT 2026 Cup Children and Youth Tournament. And believe me, the magic was felt.

Entire families, coaches with their hearts in their hands and little footballers with huge dreams. There was the rector of the UAT, Dámaso Anaya Alvarado, giving the starting signal. And as a luxury guest, Ricardo Chávez Soto, the ‘Diablito’, godfather of this edition.

“To tell you that I am a graduate of this UAT Cup, that I played on the fields that you have played; that I also had dreams, and to tell you that every dream can be fulfilled if you are stubborn enough to achieve them,” Ricardo told the kids.

That’s not a cliché, folks. It is the truth of someone who today shines in Rayados de Monterrey, in Liga MX. And it started right there, on those same fields.

The rector made it clear: this competition is a seedbed. Stars have come from here on a national and international level. And the commitment remains firm: open spaces to promote educational sports, promote healthy coexistence and form real citizens.

Numbers that inspire

162 teams. 2,916 children and young people from Victory. All competing in different categories. And after the inauguration, the icing on the cake arrived: the awards to the League and Cup champions, runners-up, third places, scorers and best goalkeepers of the 2025 edition. Sports material included.

This is not just a tournament. It is a school of life. Where each match teaches discipline, mentality and preparation. Where every goal is a lesson in effort. And every defeat, an opportunity to get up stronger.

The UAT Cup continues to be the most important children’s and youth tournament in Tamaulipas. And with examples like ‘Diablito’, the dreams of these kids have everything to come true.

Serena Williams returns to singles at Wimbledon

The 44-year-old former champion accepted a wild card and will compete from Monday in the Grand Slam on grass.

Serena’s return

Serena Williams is now at the All England Club. The 44-year-old former champion accelerated her return to singles tennis and will compete at Wimbledon, which starts on Monday. He has not played an official singles match for almost four years.

Williams accepted a wild card for both singles and doubles, alongside her sister Venus. She recently played two doubles matches: winning with Victoria Mboko at the Queen’s Club and losing to Karolina Muchova at the Berlin Open. His serve and returns are still powerful, but the question is his mobility and resistance on the court.

“It’s a sign of confidence that she’s ready for the most prestigious tournament without having played singles in so long. But if anyone can do it, it’s Serena,” said ESPN commentator Mary Joe Fernández.

Patrick McEnroe added:

“This is Serena being Serena. It’s just like her to do something bold like that. I didn’t think for a minute that she would come back just to play doubles.”

With 23 Grand Slam singles titles – seven at Wimbledon – and 14 in doubles (all with Venus), no one doubts her experience. He also won Olympic gold in London 2012 in singles and doubles, right on the grass of the All England Club. She was runner-up four times in singles in this same tournament.

The singles draw will be on Friday. Williams will debut on Monday or Tuesday. “No one is going to want to face her,” said Fernandez, who captained Williams on the Fed Cup and the U.S. Olympic team.

The Williams sisters’ first doubles match will come later in the opening week. The expectation is maximum.
