A change in royal tradition
The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, modified a long-standing protocol when commemorating the seventh anniversary of her youngest son, Prince Louis. For the first time, he delegated the capture of the commemorative image to photographer Josh Shinner, recognized for his work on the Christmas portrait of the royal family in 2023. This gesture marks a contrast with his usual practice of personally photographing his children.
Details of the celebration
The snapshot, released through the official accounts of @KensingtonRoyal, shows the little heir smiling in the gardens of Anmer Hall, a country residence in Norfolk. Wearing a checkered shirt and green sweater, the boy appears surrounded by bluebells, flowers that symbolize the arrival of spring in the United Kingdom.
Another unusual aspect was the publication schedule: the photograph was shared after midnight, breaking with the custom of issuing these portraits punctually at 00:00. According to protocol analysts, this adjustment could respond to a more relaxed communication strategy under the reign of Charles III.
Josh Shinner, the professional behind the lens, had previously highlighted the spontaneity of the Wales family during photo sessions: “One of the most natural experiences I have documented, with genuine moments of childlike joy,” he declared after the Christmas session.
Prince Louis, fourth in the British line of succession, was born on April 23, 2018 at St. Mary’s Hospital in London, the same center where his father and uncle, Prince Harry, came into the world.
