The German Football Federation (DFB) has called a press conference for this Friday in Frankfurt. He is expected to present Jürgen Klopp as the new national coach there.
The announcement, brief and without additional details, confirms the rumors that have been circulating for weeks. Klopp, who led Liverpool until 2024, was the favorite candidate since the departure of Julian Nagelsmann.
Why Klopp?
Nagelsmann resigned after Germany’s defeat against Paraguay on penalties during the round of 32 of the World Cup. Since then, Klopp has held talks with German officials in New York, where he was working as a television commentator at the tournament.
The DFB indicated on July 11 that they had reached an agreement on “essential key points” of a contract. The main obstacle was getting the go-ahead from Red Bull, where Klopp has worked for the last year and a half as global director of football, overseeing the brand’s network of clubs.
Klopp has not managed since leaving Liverpool, citing fatigue. However, this month he said he felt “recharged” and ready for a new challenge. His experience and charisma make him the ideal profile to revitalize the German team.
