Restriction on narcocorridos at musical events
The government of Jalisco, under the mandate of Governor Pablo Lemus, has implemented measures to prohibit the performance of narcocorridos at the concerts of the singer Alfredo Olivas. This decision will directly affect their presentations scheduled for April 4 in Zapopan and May 1 in Tepatitlán.
Measurement details
The restriction is applied through a decree issued by the State Entertainment Agency, which prohibits the dissemination of content that glorifies criminal activities in venues administered by the state. Lemus emphasized that the objective is not to censor a musical genre, but to establish ethical limits: “Freedom of expression has limits when violence is normalized.”
In addition, municipalities have been asked to sign commitment letters with artists and producers to regulate the content of the shows. The governor announced that he will present a formal initiative before the Congress of Jalisco next week, in collaboration with deputy Julio César Hurtado of the PAN, who promoted a similar proposal.
Social context and projection
Lemus linked the measure to the disappearance crisis in Mexico, arguing that praising criminal groups through music contradicts efforts for justice and memory. However, the ban will not immediately affect all events; For example, the concert by Los Dos Carnales and El Fantasma scheduled for July in Guadalajara is still on, although under review.
