Israel expands military operations in Gaza with air and ground attacks

Israeli troops intensify their presence in Gaza with coordinated operations after the collapse of the latest ceasefire.

Military escalation in Gaza after breaking of the ceasefire

The Israel Ministry of Defense confirmed this Monday the expansion of its military operations in the Gaza Strip, marking a new chapter in the conflict that began after the attacks of October 7, 2023. According to reports from local authorities, controlled by Hamas, the accumulated death toll exceeds 54,500, although these figures have not been independently verified.

Coordinated operations: ground and air

In an official statement, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) detailed that in the last 24 hours the following were executed:

RelatedIsrael attacks Hamas leaders in Qatar and puts negotiations at risk
  • Land advances on multiple fronts to neutralize enemy combatants.
  • Systematic destruction of war infrastructure, including networks of tunnels and weapons depots.
  • Air raids against strategic targets such as command centers and rocket launch sites.

The military spokesperson emphasized that these actions respond to “real-time intelligence” on the movements of armed groups, although he omitted to specify exact locations for operational security reasons.

Strategic context and key statements

General Eyal Zamir, Israeli Chief of Staff, called the campaign “a proportional and necessary response” after the failure of peace negotiations in March. Analysts point out that this phase seeks:

  • Degrade Hamas’ logistical capabilities.
  • Minimize short-term threats against Israeli civilians.
  • Consolidate positions before possible international dialogues.

It should be noted that, according to reports from the United Nations, 85% of the Gazan population faces forced displacement and critical shortages of medical supplies. Organizations such as the Red Cross have warned of violations of International Humanitarian Law by both sides.

Regional implications and reactions

The international community maintains divided positions. While countries like the United States support Israel’s right to self-defense, Arab nations and the European Union demand an immediate cessation of hostilities. Geopolitical experts anticipate that this escalation could:

  • Impact diplomatic relations in the region.
  • Accelerate parallel negotiations with actors such as Hezbollah.
  • Increase pressure on Egypt to mediate new truces.

What’s next in the conflict? Observers agree that the lack of a sustainable political solution will prolong the violence. The destruction of essential infrastructure in Gaza and sporadic attacks against Israel suggest a war of attrition scenario in the medium term.

Sheinbaum detailed:

“Two ships have already left for Venezuela that carry supplies of different types, both from collections that were made in our country, civil as well as from the government of the states that go there. They have medicines and non-perishable food and some other supplies.”

Rescue work

The Mexican military group “Yumare”, made up of 264 elements, has worked in the affected areas. So far, it has rescued two people and a dog alive, in addition to recovering the remains of 80 deceased people. There have also been 1,988 medical consultations and one surgical intervention.

Hamas gives up control in Gaza and advances international plan

Hamas dissolves emergency committee to allow new administration in Gaza.

Hamas ushers in new administration in Gaza

The Hamas government sent a signal to relax its control in the Gaza Strip. Ismail al-Thawabta, director of the press office, announced the dissolution of the local Emergency Committee. The measure seeks to facilitate the transition to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, a body provided for in the international plan.

The new entity will be under the supervision of the Peace Council. The job continuity of fifty thousand public employees is guaranteed.

Ali Shaath, president of the transition committee, assured that they are prepared to take control under a single law. However, the Islamist militia’s Ministry of the Interior will continue to manage security.

The Israeli government disqualified the initiative. He accused the organization of trying to replicate a model where they retain control of the armed forces.

Despite skepticism, the US administration is moving forward with the project through logistical and military support. A new round of negotiations will take place in Cairo in the coming days.

Venezuela reports 3,342 deaths after earthquakes

The authorities update figures from the earthquakes of June 24. The UN estimates thousands of missing.

New official balance sheet

The Government of Venezuela updated the number of victims of the two earthquakes that occurred on June 24. The new report, released on July 5, raised the total number of deaths to 3,342 and injuries to 16,740.

“Official balance as of July 5: 3,342 dead and 16,740 injured,” says the official note.

The previous figure, released a day earlier, recorded 2,954 deaths. The increase reflects the complexity of the rescue and identification of bodies in the affected areas.

Figures of missing people

Authorities have not provided an official number of missing people. However, the United Nations estimates that the number could reach 50,000, while other projections place it at around 10,000.

Given the magnitude of the tragedy, Venezuelan authorities buried more than 150 unidentified bodies in a long line of individual graves. The measure seeks to avoid health risks and provide a dignified burial to the victims.
